Why learn Chinese? 为什么学中文?

There are many reasons! Chinese is the language of Nearly 1/4 of the World's Population and speakers of Chinese not only live all over the world in China, Taiwan, and Singapore, but also throughout Southeast Asia। And that doesn’t include the large Chinese communities in most western countries.! This has meant that Chinese is now the most spoken language in the world!

Why else? Well learning Chinese is a wonderful and exciting experience through which you can understand a different culture। Chinese has a unique ideographic writing system, which provides visual comprehensibility. The grammatical structure of Chinese is logical, pragmatic and relates to the particular way of Chinese thinking. Knowledge of the written language opens up the culture of one of the world's oldest civilizations.

And don’t forget! China currently boasts the fastest growing economy in the world and many people feel that they will be the biggest global market in the twenty-first century। Proficient speakers of Chinese Mandarin will find jobs in various fields such as business, government, international relations, information technology, tourism, education, translation and much, much more.

Of all foreign languages in the British school and university system Chinese is quickly showing itself to be the replacement of other languages. For instance, this was published in the BBC… ‘British exports to the country are expected to quadruple by the end of the decade and the government wants every school, college and university to be twinned with an equivalent in China within the next five years’

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing on behalf of Hsin Hui Hsu (Phoebe), who was my private Chinese tutor for 10 months in Taipei, Taiwan. I was more than satisfied with the learning environment that Phoebe created during our lessons. Not only was she always prepared, but she also tailored our lessons to match both what I wanted as a student, and what she felt I needed to learn or work on. In addition, she was continually patient, understanding and able to explain things I didn’t understand in different ways. She struck the right balance between challenging me to improve my Chinese and giving me enough time and space to progress at my own pace. Plus, I found her to be very personable and easy to get along with and work with, which made learning Chinese with Phoebe just all the more pleasant.

I highly recommend Phoebe as a Chinese teacher and would be happy to answer any questions her teaching style and abilities.

Best regards,

To whom it may concern,

I highly recommend Hsin Hui Hsu (Phoebe) as a Chinese teacher to anyone who is serious about studying Chinese. Hsin Hui Hsu is an excellent and understanding teacher.

I studied under her for about sixth months. During those sixth months I learned how to read, write, and speak confidently at a high beginner level. Hsin Hui Hsu taught at a pace I was comfortable with and helped to make the learning process fun!

I am amazed at how much I learned over the sixth months I studied with her, and know if I had the opportunity to study with her more, I would. She is a great teacher, and if anyone has the opportunity to study with her, please do not pass it up.

Sincerely,

Mary Mcallister
